Safe Boating Awareness Week launch - Québec City Event

On May 16th 2014, the Québec Boating Council (QBC) officially launched its 25th Safe Boating Campaign. The event took place at the Port of Québec Marina, where many members of the QBC were present to insist on the importance of awareness of safe boating practices. Various safety rules and equipment were explained and demonstrated for the people present.

Mr Yves Paquette, president of the Québec Boating Council mentioned how, with the growing popularity of water sports, more and more types of boats are present on the same water environment. It is therefore essential for boaters to know the rules of the road and share, with courtesy, the waterways.

Last year in the province of Québec, 24 people lost their lives to an accident on the water. Over 65 % of deaths in 2013 occurred as the person in charge was very experienced, and approximately 75% happened while the victims were improperly wearing their lifejacket or did not have one on at all.

Promotion of safe boating practices from the QBC continues to help lower the above statistics each year.
